MLHNZ Traditional Archery Practice

The Wellington Bowmans practice will recommence on Saturday 26th September 2009 under the umbrella of Medieval Living History New Zealand (MLHNZ).

Practices will be run on alternate Saturdays from 10am to 12pm. There is a schedule below detailing exactly which Saturdays you should put into your calendar if you're not sure, and which sessions will be relocated or postponed where they clash with other known events.

As with previous years, our plan is to run archery throughout the 'Summer' season, which runs until the end of February.

Schedule:

  • September 26th
  • October 10th
  • October 24th - Canceled because of NAAMA, BC Camp, and local camps
  • November 7th
  • November 21st
  • December 5th - Relocated to Brookfield Scout Camp, Moores Valley Road, Wainuiomata (MLHNZ Summer Camp)
  • December 19th
  • January 2nd - May be canceled, but we'll see how we go.
  • January 16th
  • January 30th
  • February 13th
  • February 27th
We may occasionally organise additional saturdays if there are enough people interested. Keep an eye on GatheringDarkness for announcements.

Cost
Per person: $30/$35 for the season (MLHNZ members/non members) or $5 per day. Payment can be made to one of the archery marshals on the day or directly into the MLHNZ bank account (details to follow).

Time
10am to 12pm. Meet in the carpark at 10am or follow the path to the very last sports field to the south.

Venue
Grenada North sports park, Nassau Ave, off Jamaica Drv. See the map below. There are toilets available at the carpark, but the council occasionally forgets to unlock them for us.

Postponement:
If the weather forecast looks bad we'll post a notice on here, so watch this space. If you don't own a computer or yours was eaten by squirrels, you can txt me on 021 404 783 to find out on the day.

What to bring and expect:
Bring your own gear if you have it, otherwise we may have some you can borrow. Traditional bows and crossbows are preferred, but if the only gear you have is modern then bring it along. There is no requirement to wear medieval garb at this event, but you can if you want to. The field can get quite hot in the height of summer so bring sunblock and plenty of water.

We will be doing both target and combat archery. If anyone has any ideas for games they'd like to play or competitions they'd like run let us know. We'll try and keep it interesting for you. There is no formal training programme, but if you would like to learn, there are plenty of experienced archers who can help you progress.

Anybody is welcome. See you there.
