The drawing of the sword allows a great opportunity for a pommel strike to the face. Not too sure how it would go for a longsword, depends on your arms I s'pose.

If I remember correctly lanolin is actually a wax so it should be ok.
But I have also seen it used in hand creams where it is mixed with water so maybe not.

Just a note on leather foundation CoP.
Could I suggest that you line with a canvas or heavy linen as this will prevent a lot of stretch in the leather.
And by "Line" I mean glue it to the back of ... |

Please note that your mullage should get no higher than about 50-55 degrees as alcohol will start to vapour off anywhere above that.
