In that case there was mesh attached to the inside of the eye holes but it was (a) thinner than recommended and (b) not attached securely. An arrow hit the mesh and deformed it ... |

That is a good point about an arm strap.
The thing with the Norse rounds is a lot of them didn't have those, some did. Others had about 4 straps in a square shaped set up around the hand grip, all ... |

From my own personal experience, I've found that 10mm is satisfactory. Most of the time in single combat I am using the shield to provide deflection rather than absorption (at least that is my intent ... |
