Horn and a crockpot?

I have heaps of horn that I want to soften and split so I can flatten it, can I use a crockpot or will I end up with glue or overcooked horn?

I actively boiled mine for about 2 hours and it only got soft and flexible rather than dissolving (if I took it out it started to harden up again very quickly, the horn I mean...um..er) Rolling Eyes
