Heck yeah - just need the specialized equipment. It would be good to dust off my old SCA crossbow. |

Would these bunny busters be the right type of tips? What would be safe to use? _________________ did they beat the drums slowly

If people in the Auckland area are keen I'm sure we can get a little workshop happening to produce some mesh facemasks to be worn with helmets.
Also, be sure to read this for equipment specs:

Ha!
The Norsemen would do it anyway without the mesh, because we are hard
I enjoyed fighting with horses and javelins and archers in Australia, but it could have been a bit rougher. I would like to throw things as well; like rocks and axes.
However without the mesh someone would get hit in the eye and then someone else entirely would have a cry about it. But we would be happy to have someone to engage in 'volley' type combat archery with. Although this wouldn't quite be the same a freestyle firing combat, it could be conducted safely enough. Although we do use javelins in a freestyle and they don't injure. But no nithlings involved please.
The archer firing at us from horseback at the first Great Lakes Tourney was most enjoyable. Maybe they might like to do so again in future? And then again this year those (even those whom 'no longer play with us') archers who fired at us and the Herlid was alright. |

I can't help but wonder if you're taking your persona just a little too far for the fun of it, or if you're actually suggesting that safety precautions are for the weak and feeble and don't apply to the Auckland Norse.
... for my part, I'm also Norse, also do archery, and also would like to try combat archery... but I'm not about to shoot at people without taking all the right precautions. An arrow in flight, with or without a point on it, still has the potential to puncture flesh, take out eyes, and inflict other nasty injuries, even when fired from a 30lb bow. I wouldn't want to be personally responsible for inflicting permanent injury.
It's got nothing to do with how tough you are - but it's got everything to do with how stupid you are. |

Well then, you don't have to fire at us, maybe your friends might like to though.
We have fun. Getting shot at by a bow is fun. I laugh if a combat arrow could puncture my flesh, laugh I say!
And I did suggest safety precautions?!? Volley fire is safety villt. |
