Posted on behalf of Conal:
Castle at Jacob's Ford.
Templar garrison slaughtered.
Bodies thrown into burning building.
Multiple arrow wounds. Swords did the finishing.
Arrow descriptions and graphics included.
I seem to recall a reference to English crusaders marching on the coast
to Jaffa with multiple arrows protruding from Chain and Gambeson. Shot
at range by a harrassing force of S'ala-hudin's light cavalry.
Arrows didn't seem to bother them much.
I mean... when has an archer ever changed the outcome of a battle...
recently.

This is because the Turkish cavalry were using short bows (3 foot staves), which work fine against other lightly armoured Turks, but do diddly-squat to a moderately well-armoured crusader. There's a lot to be said for gambesons.

The crossbow equivalent of 30lb at 28 inches is 600 inch-pounds.
