Equestrian training in Auckland

Hi has any one formed an auckland equestrian club?

There are numerous equestrian clubs in Auckland. However if you mean one with interests in the Middle Ages, I'm only aware of one.

I'm pretty sure that the Barony of Ildhafn (SCA) has some equestrian stuff going on in Auckland. They have an authrosied equestrian marshal at least.

For reenactment stuff or otherwise? you could always post on horsetalk.co.nz under their forums, there is a member there called Baroque (Jane) who is part of the Akl jousting group you can PM her thru that site as I'm sure she'll be more than happy to help.

Yes. It's one of my goals to do so.

yes also one of mine, equestrian skills are a missing link. swordmanship, sheild, archery, the light and heavy lance. dressage, Did you know you can do most of the training on foot?

How can you train for an equestrian event on foot?

As for jousting groups in Auckland there is one in Waiuku. I forget it's name.

It's the Company of the Lance but it is no longer based at Waiuku.

I teach the basic weapons techniques on foot. But you can't learn much more about mounted combat until you are actually up on the horse actually doing it.

You certainly would need to have a good understanding on the ground before attempting to do on horse back but once there it is a whole different thing

The Company of the Lance is now training out of my place in South Auckland.
Its a whole lot closer than Waiuku for most of us!

I train classical dressage up to and including the airs above the ground which is the specialty of my mare.

Its Mr M when he was about 2yo. He looks a lot more stunning these days now he has matured into a big boy!

http://www.anesi.com/prsefs.htm. In early 2006 I was fortunate to train in india with the calvary of rajisthan for a few days. Their new recruite practices of equestrian martial arts instruction are entirely ground based until the first grading. There is an amount of instruction upon saddles mounted upon fence posts which follows towards the end. Primarily the training is carried out very much as the link above sugests. The separation of the mount in this early stage is helpfull in training the body not to injure the mount with the follow through due to the masses of the impliment. Hope that helps.
