Starting on Saturday 27th September, we will be ramping up the Wellington archery scene again after a less than friendly winter.

Our trial period for the council park in Grenada North has finished, so in order to keep it we now need to pay for it. Fortunately if we get enough people coming along it won't be a major outlay. So, here's the deal:

We will be running archery every 2nd and 4th saturday (of the month) over the summer season (September to February) except where there is a clash with other major events, in which case we'll either run the archery at the event or just cancel it for that weekend. We'll shortly be posting a calendar so you can keep track. At this stage we have no plans to run archery next winter, but there might be the odd event organised just to keep people sharp.

Cost
Per person: $30 for the season, $5 casual.

Time
2pm to 4pm. Meet in the carpark at 2pm or follow the path to the very last sports field.

Venue
Grenada North sports park, Nassau Ave, which is off Jamaica Drv. There is a map on GD. There are toilets available at the carpark.

Postponement:
If the weather forecast looks bad we'll post a notice on here, so watch this space. If you don't own a computer or yours was eaten by squirrels, you can txt me on 021 404 783 to find out on the day.

Bring your own gear if you have it, otherwise we may have some you can borrow. We will be doing both target and combat archery. If anyone has any ideas for games they'd like to play or competitions they'd like run let us know. We'll try and keep it interesting for you.

Anybody is welcome. See you there.
- Nigel Thomas & Andy Mack

I am flexible and can reschedule the combined arms training if you wish.

However we got off to a great start last Saturday so I would like to stick to a more or less monthly schedule to keep the momentum going.

Hi guys,

Sorry it falls on the same date, that's unfortunate. From the archery perspective, I am aware that a saturday training conflicts with Order of the Boar work. Unfortunately most other clubs train on a Sunday so it made more sense for us to use saturday.

We're going to be running archery on the 2nd and 4th saturday of each month until the end of February (except where it conflicts with other major events) if that helps with planning at all.

Cindy - if you miss this one, there will be another one in two weeks time, so not to worry.

Cheers,
Nigel

not worried, just letting you know as a matter of courtesy as I believe you asked G if we were coming along Smile

Callum, lovely offer to change weekends but I would feel so bad if you changed it and it didn't go ahead due to the fantastic weather we've been having lately, we're also disecting horse legs on the following weekend anyway (shouldn't have opened my big trap mes feels) Confused

Just a reminder, the Wellington Bowmans Gathering's first session is this Saturday.

It looks like the SCA are keen to join us on a regular basis too, which is excellent.

Once again sorry to those attending Callums combined arms training on Saturday. We're going to be running every 2nd and 4th saturday of the month, so you will have other opportunities to come along.

See you all there.

Hi Nigel,

Just checking, is the archery on this weekend or the following?
Cheers

Yes, the archery is on this weekend Smile The weather forecast is looking excellent too.

Bring your heavy archery kit too and we'll set up some obstacles and have a shoot out!

Hi all,

The next archery session will be this coming saturday - 8th November at Grenada North, the same as usual. 2pm.

The following session (22nd November) intersects with the MLHNZ camp in Wellington. Because both Andy and myself, and quite a few other regulars will be attending that camp, we're going to run the archery there instead. Anyone not attending the camp is still welcome to come and shoot as normal.

The address is Brookefields Scout Camp, Moores Valley Road, Wainuiomata. Head along the Petone Esplanade, turn left at the 2nd round about, go over the hill to Wainuiomata, straight ahead until you are almost through Wainuiomata and reach a small set of shops at an intersection, turn left into Moores Valley Road, follow it for about 6km's, turn right(ish) into Brookefields Scout Camp and meander along the road until you find us.

Starts 2pm.

So remember, this saturday is the same as usual, the one in three weeks is at Brookefields.

See you there.

Is it safe to assume its still $5.00 for casual at Brookfield?

It's $5 payable to MLHNZ for day tripping at Brookfields that weekend, whether you're doing archery or not. Usual MLH rules apply.

Dunno if Nigel & Andy want to charge extra for the archery.

thanks Angel, I am aware of that but I want to know if the separate fee that we normally pay for archery is still applicable.

G’day all.

The archery will be free on the 22nd because of the distance to travel, the MLHNZ fees and so on.

Hope that clears things up,

Wellington archers please note - to clarify some confusion - there will not be archery this saturday (6th December) because archery only occurs on the 2nd and 4th saturday of the month. Due to the fact that there are not exactly 28 days in every month, this time around there happens to be three weeks between events and not two.

If anyone does want to go out there this weekend you are quite welcome to, but you'll have to get the key off me if you want to get a vehicle through the gate. Otherwise we'll see everyone there next weekend on the 13th December.

The timetable and general information can be found here:

http://www.gatheringdarkness.co.nz/archery

Cheers,
Nigel
