Several of our riders have moved overseas in the last 6 or so months for various periods of time opening up one, possibly two positions as non-owner riders in our group.
Non owner riders pay a $100 a month club fee as part of a contribution to horse upkeep. In exchange they get access to a horse to ride as well as to training. When compared to riding school fees this is a bargain.
I am looking for competent riders who unarmoured weigh no more than 90 kgs and who are prepared to provide themselves with high quality kit. In exchange we teach you mounted re-enactment skills and you also become part of a successful team
We train formally near Upper Hutt on Saturday afternoons (weather permitting) but members also often ride informally on Sunday afternoons as well as during some weekdays after work (typically in the daylight saving months).
The Order of the Boar is now a multi-period cavalry focused re-enactment group so while our core period of interest remains in the 14th century and the jousting tournament, we also now cover 16th century Border Reivers and New Zealand Mounted Rifles (Boer War and WW1) and are currently expanding our skill set as a result.
