im not sure if anyone else has done a subject along these lines before, however i wanted to put out some feelers and get our wonderful communities opinion on a hobby ive now taken up
granted most of the metal and colours are not period, but i personally dont care, i love working with this stuff, i love making these different weaves, and i think it looks wicked!
so really what i want to know is general feelings, any tips, if anyone else has done this or is currently doing this, maybe even prices some people are willing to pay for some of my.... 'products'
any real feed back would be great =D
*mutter mutter* apparently pictures too big, will have to settle for links to photobucket, apologies!

main colours i have in good enough supply are red black green brass and purple, will be getting more, and up to... 13 weaves ive mastered |

those two look great!
looks like a byzantine variant.....
yeah, i only think of charging to get the cost of the rings back really, of the 8 ive made so far i have given them all to friends, just a little to come in to feed the hobby would be great :3
its a pity that i couldnt have made it to naama this year then, had work during the weekend =/
i havent done as much research as i probably should have, im not sure how many places actually make these sorts of links, but i get all mine from http://theringlord.com/cart/shopdisplaycategories.asp which so far have been wihtin my price range
and all the weaves ive been getting from http://www.mailleartisans.org/weaves/ |

suddenly interest?!?!?!
hahahah!!
Although, if raven is interested, it might be better off asking him if he would be willing, he has far more experience then me...
Otherwise....
at the moment, i honestly dont know what to charge, and most of it is made to order, what colour what weave what size kind of thing, and if i dont have the colour you want, i can order it in the next batch (lots of people want blue =D )
just a couple of simple examples of what ive done so far
Black and Red Box chain collar im working on for my self
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2589.jpg
simple persian 3/1 bracelet i made for myself using a bright green and soft purple
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2575.jpg
Double spiral half byzantine +1 in purple and brass
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2579.jpg
Captive inverted round chain made in a rainbow of colours! sadly doesnt give enough mobility to make a necklace or bracelet out of it, but good or a small section
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2572.jpg
and persian dragon scale / dragon back (apparently different weaves, but look the same to me) made with mild steel with purple / blue / green
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2590.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2570.jpg
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/IMG_2571.jpg
i have no idea what to charge, but ill likely do the same as raven, and just do the cost of rings or maybe double..... considering that the full persian black and purple necklace works out at 6.50 odd NZ for links + shipping out here, 15 for that seems reasonable to me, its really just to feed the addiction =D |

I like the Box in photo 2589, but would go for Black and Yellow as those are the family Colours, but would also look at Dark Green and White, which is the Sable Hart Colours.
May at this stage look at 3 necklases and 3 bracelets. That is about $90.
Would you be able to do those for christmas, or is that too short a time.
Do you need any measurements.

arighty archer, at the moment i dont have enough white / black / yellow links, but never fear! ive already ordered more, and will easily be able to have it done by xmas!
in terms of size, yeah, i make them to whatever length you need, which is usually done in person, but if you could just say, measure the inner circumference of a piece of string odd or a necklace you know fits you well, and send that to me, i can work off of that!
ive made two samples based on what you asked for, plus a shot of what my completed box necklace looks on my wrist, to give you an idea of the bulky ness, and if your still alright with it, ill get cracking!
my neckalce on my wrist

the black and yellow
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb241/leuscreuntos/boxchainblackandyellow.jpg
and the green and white

By chance is there a darker Green and a Darker Yellow, if not then will accept those, will take measurements and post them for you. will be going up to Auckland next week so will get my Grandsons measurements then.
Actually I may change my mind and have all 6 as necklasses. So it will be three - Green and White and three - Black and Yellow. Will do the same for the Bracelets in the new Year, if that is OK with you.
Cheers

are the colours i have, and are re ordering in bulk, and from what i can see through y suppliers sight i dont think they have anything darker, however id lie to point out that the camera is deceptively good, and that yellow isnt THAT bright.... |
