Is canvas best for a tent?

Hi

After looking over the posts on this site it seems as though canvas is the best option for making our own tent. We are wanting to put together a Viking A Frame tent.

Also, where might be the best place to buy the fabric from?

Any advice and/or thoughts would be much appreciated.
