Horse Insurance

Who has their horses insured for jousting and/or skill at arms? What company do you use? I'm currently insuring my two again as my last policy just ran out and I'm pretty sure skill at arms (if we go that far) wouldn't be considered pleasure riding!

I don't insure any of our horses. I have looked at it and it is not worth it.

Even though a proven jousting horse is worth a lot, given the time and effort that you have put into training it, you can only cover the base cost of the horse. Plus the fact that after age 12 you have to have a vet do an annual check to keep the insurance running over.

If you have a top of the line dressage horse or similar, insurance is worth it because asuch a horse has a clear market value that you can insure it for.

But for a pure jousting horse I don't think it is worth it.

Thats cool, was wondering if people do have them covered or not for this sport, they'll still be insured anyway just not for this!

Mia is fully covered for everything including jousting & skill at arms through Jardine Bloodstock.

The cost is about $600+ to insure her for replacement cost of $15,000 which is her current market value

Jardine was the one that I was looking at, it was going to cost me $350 thru bloodstock and Jardine was $218 both being up to 4K. For me its just that if something should happen I couldn't afford to find 4k to replace her but we wouldn't be doing jousting anyway. Not sure about insuring Jules now, he is 12 so only 2 years before they stop insuring plus his hocks would be excluded and he is also a choker (5 times in the last 2 months). Decisions decisions!!
