Not that I would intend to do this but this saddle would make an interesting example to base a period one off although I imgaine for the horse that it would be blimmin uncomfortable let alone for the rider!

My ass hurts just looking at those big metal bits on the seat...
Though I have read something about wooden saddles that had no soft covering, and apparently one simply stood in the stirrups the whole time or something... either way rather them than me |

One would assume quite a bit of padding but given that its the chinese who have tractor pulls using there scrotum and other tough guy events whoknows.

I heard the same and it is similar to bike racing where one stands a lot too, using only the upper legs to 'steer against the saddle'... |
