I some bracers yesterday with the help of a friend.

Have a look at my gallery for pictures.

The construction is of galvanised steel, a large bag clip on each bracer. I attached the clip straps with pop-rivets.

These are not authentic, but they will do for sparring and such.

Change the connectors to something like buckles and leather straps, paint over the galvanising with white paint (they had that back then) and they will be historically accurate. See below:
