What is your favorite medieval movie?

I admit it, Heath Ledger made 'A Knight's Tale' for me... but a lot of the movie annoyed me as well, Jocelyn's hairdos were ridiculous and she herself was just aggravating. I would have changed the end so that William married Kate the blacksmith. She was awesome

We can add Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" to this list now. I'll place it as my first among all Medieval movies, virtually perfect in nearly every way. Apart from a few minor props and shots, I can't think of s single Medieval fim that does it so well.

Haven't officially voted, but put me down for (in no order):

* 13th Warrior (Eaters of the Dead was about as exciting as reading a tech manual though)
* Flesh & Blood - loved the siege of the castle, and some of the various things that occurred. Amazing.
* Kingdom of Heaven (Directr's Cut) - Agree with everyone who says it's the extra scenes that really really make the difference.
* Tristan & Isolde - cause Sophia Miles is hot! :p

Only thing I could really fault was the heater shields instead of kites, but goes to show that a film can be both entertaining and reasonable correct. Well worth watching/owning!

Solomon Kane (2009) is a fun B action set in the 1600s. Witches, demons, sword fights, and crucifications.

I really enjoyed Outlander. It was a movie about a spaceman who crashes in viking times and has to defeat a bad alien with the help of the locals - what the f@ck has historical accuracy got to do with that?

My favourite Medieval movie is "Stara Basin" check it out on u tube. It's in Polish with sub titles and is real good movie some excellent Viking scenes too. If anyone had any more Viking ones they can suggest i would love to see them. Although not that old i found "Pathfinder" good.

Anyone got any criteria for what makes a good Ancient/Dark Age/Medieval movie?

For me (apart from some measure of historical accuracy...OK - a large measure of hsitorical accuracy), they have to have characters we can identify with, sympathise with, or otherwise like;

They also have to have a reasonable storyline, which to me is more than a journey from A to B with adventures along the way (although that can work);

Some sense of scale. By that, I mean it has to have something more than what we'd expect to get from a double-episode of the old Xena or Hercules series (examples of such films that, to me, didn't rise above that, would include Pathfinder, and before that, King Arthur).

What about the rest of you?
