Hey all,
If there are people wanting to get into archery and want a cheapish longbow check out

That would be exciting to play with. People could take bets on whether my arm, spleen, or spine would rupture first. Maybe if I lay on the ground, and pushed the bow away with my feet, I might be able to fire an arrow with it.
Does anyone know much about/has anyone actually fired, a medieval sling? Seems like it would be both fun and interesting to give it a try.

One Eyed Phil!! Hows things? you were asking about slings. Yep made a fair few for people over the years. I plan to have plently for sale at Canturbury Fair. probably between 10 and 15 gold.Yes they are lots of fun, most people after a bit of practice can hit a tree at 30 paces.
Great way to pick a fight.

We've just bought two kits.
The kit includes:
* One Reproduction Longbow (see photo - website only)
* Four natural finish cedar wood arrows fletched with feathers ("sorry about the plastic nock. We just haven't been able to find an economical alternative" - NZAP)
* A leather bracer (arm guard) and leather finger tab.
* A vinyl belt quiver (looks like a leather one from a distance, but not authentic).
* 2 x 40cm paper bullseye target face.
* and a copy of the ABCs for Archery to explaining how it all works (a thin book with the basics to get you started).
The bows look the part and seem to be well made. The arrows are reasonable quality, even if they have plastic nocks. The bracer is vital if you don't want your arm shredded while you're learning - it's leather but uses bungy cord to attach it. The quiver looks like leather from a distance, but it is 100% synthetic materials, and seems a tad shortl for the longer arrows required for the 40lb 60inch bows that I have.
The bows come in two lengths - 60inch and 68inch, and two draw weights - 30lb and 40lb.
Currently they are virtually sold out because of popularity, but they have ordered more and expect to take delivery some time in January.

I have some full sized Hickory longbows left, one at 55lb's@28" and the other 70lb's@28" I also have a dozen self nocked cedar arrows with field tips.
